In a story that sparked intense discussion online, a 38-year-old American woman spoke about becoming a mother for the first time and the unique dynamics of her marriage, where her husband openly identifies as gay.
According to a report published by The Sun newspaper, Samantha Greenstone and her husband, theater artist Jacob Hoff, welcomed their first child last month. While the couple says they are happily married and deeply in love, their relationship has sparked curiosity, and sometimes unwanted judgment, on social media.
Samantha, who became a mother for the first time at the age of 38, said in a video that she is often confused with her child’s grandmother. “Sometimes people think I am my son’s grandmother, not his mother,” she said, adding that she chose to laugh at such comments. She also revealed that she avoided Botox during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and needed a blood transfusion after giving birth, which temporarily affected her appearance. In a subtle nod, she compared herself to “Old Rose” from the movie “Old Rose.” Titanic.
The couple also clarified that they did not undergo artificial insemination or any medical intervention to get pregnant. “We planned our baby the natural way, like the birds and the bees,” Jacob said, while Samantha added: “We’re in love and that’s why we’re together.”
Samantha and Jacob first met during a play audition, and their friendship gradually turned into a romance. Jacob proposed outside the Beverly Hills Hotel in December 2023, and the couple tied the knot in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Florida in November 2024, in the presence of 34 guests.
Despite their public openness, some social media users described their relationship as a “lavender marriage,” a term used to refer to unions entered into for the sake of appearance. The couple strongly rejects the sign. “I am completely satisfied with this marriage,” Jacob said, adding that calling it a marriage of convenience does not reflect the reality of their bond.
Samantha’s story has also revived the broader debate about late motherhood and societal expectations. While early motherhood is often considered ideal by some, the couple stress that the decision to have a child remains very personal, and their decision was made together.
