The Union Public Service Commission UPSC released a notification for Civil Services Examination 2026 on February 4, but this notification was debated more for its linguistic and spelling errors than for its information. In fact, by sharing screenshots of the document on social media, the candidates claimed that there were more than 40 spelling and grammatical errors in the notice. Then questions began to be raised about the professionalism of the authority.
Where were major errors seen in UPSC notification?
Many shocking errors are found on page number two of the UPSC notification itself. Here ‘Examination’ has been written as ‘Examinaiton’ and ‘Candidates’ has been written as ‘Candidates’. Not only that, but the same word also appears incorrectly a few lines later, making it clear that the document has not been proofread properly. On page 7, the standard is written as Bechmark and the functional as Functinal. On page 8, instead of shortcuts, there are shortcuts. Moreover, in the list of examination centers on page 9, Kolkata is written as Kolkata, while the correct spelling is at one place on the same page. Otherwise, on page 67, agriculture-based industries are written instead of agriculture-based industries, and public sector undertakings and associated entities are written instead of public sector undertakings. The spelling of the word BEYOND is found as BEYND on the last page of the notice.
Trolling the committee on social media
As soon as this UPSC notification was issued, social media users started sharing screenshots of these errors. Many candidates raised the question that if they make such mistakes in the exam or answer sheet, their marks will be deducted. How could it then be that there were so many fundamental errors in the commission’s official document? One user claimed that there were more than 40 spelling and linguistic errors in the entire notification, after which the issue quickly spread.
Questions raised about the committee’s professionalism
UPSC is a constitutional body of the Government of India, which selects top administrative officers like IAS, IPS and IFSC for the country. These officers are later responsible for district administration, law and order, and representing the country at the international level. In such a situation, due to such a large number of errors discovered in the official notification, questions arise about the work of the Committee and its ability to pay attention to detail.
The controversial UPSC application process continues
Despite these controversies, the application process for the Civil Services Examination 2026 is ongoing, and candidates will be able to apply through upsconline.nic.in until February 24, 2026. Under this exam, recruitment will take place in 933 posts, while 80 posts are allocated for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2026. While last year, i.e. in 2025, more than 10,000 candidates applied, of which 4,161 cleared the exams. Preliminary, 2736 reached the interview and 979 candidates were selected. Apart from this, an important change has also been mentioned in the notification. Now that you have made your choice, permission to be tested repeatedly while on duty will not be the same as before. According to the new rules, the selected officer will get a chance to improve his performance once. After that, he will have to resign from the service to appear in the exam again, though no change will be made in the old rules related to IAS and IFS.
