Marriage apps have been a part of the matchmaking scene in India for a long time. Platforms like Shaadi.com and Jeevansathi have helped many people find their ideal partners. Now, there’s another name joining the list: Knot.dating. But there is a twist.
The app gained attention after a lawyer shared a video on Instagram discussing it. Her post has since sparked widespread conversation online.
AI marriage app for India’s ‘top 1% of men’
In her video, the lawyer introduced Knot.dating as an AI-based matrimonial app in India. “Forget Tinder, Shaadi.com, there is a brand new AI matrimonial app in India called Knot.com. It is not for all Indians, it is for the top 1 per cent of men. Yes, this is where you find the top 1 per cent of men in India,” she said.
She explained how the app has separate entry rules for men and women. “Men have to earn at least 50,000 a year to join this and find suitable opportunities. Women have no conditions at all,” she said. “The whole thing screams gold-diggers,” she said of the idea. “You can just walk in and shop for a rich husband. I mean, what was this guy thinking, so he shamelessly created an app for women to dig for gold like that?”
The lawyer also noted that the app was created by two men. “Two guys came up with the idea of creating this app for high-net-worth men to find women. So, the theory that men who are crying gold diggers don’t have gold became very real,” she said.

Shortly after the video went viral, the marriage app responded in the comments section, writing: “Humein kyun toda?”
Everyone had an opinion about it
Since it was posted online, the video has received more than three thousand views. Not only that, it also led to a wave of mixed reactions online. Some viewers agreed with her idea, while others thought the idea wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
One user commented: “It is always wise to marry someone who is your social, financial and intellectual equal. I would totally look for this site. Why not!?”
Another said: “Education and money do not guarantee morals and an open mind. I learned this recently.”
“There should be a salary standard for women too, to register on the app just like men. The annual minimum CTC is 50k,” another person wrote.
“So less than 1% of men actually own gold,” one comment read.
“Reverse the gender and you’ll find men describing women on the app as ‘difficult’ and too ‘demanding’, and you’ll find families saying ‘zyada Padha likha dia ladkiyo ko,'” one person shared.
One person replied: “They actually created this app so these top-tier men can shop for women they consider inferior to them. That’s my guess.”
“Such a stupid idea. I wonder how these men can find their false pride. I’m judging all these men who agree to marriage on the basis of revealing their income level in this way and vice versa too,” read another comment.
Founders on Rs 50 Lakh nominee
According to BusinessWire India, Knot.dating was founded by Jasvir Singh and Abhishek Asthana. Jasvir Singh, co-founder and CEO, described it as a platform for people who are serious about marriage. “As the name suggests, it is not a dating app, but for people who are tired of dating and are ready to tie the knot,” he added.
When asked about the candidate of 50 lakh annual income for men, Singh explained that the rule is not about money but ambition. “We needed a solid filter that created clarity, not clutter. 50 liters is that line in the sand,” he told the outlet. “It tells you something about who someone is, how they think, and where they’re going.”
The app is available on Android, iOS and web.
