In another clash over language in Maharashtra, a man dressed as Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj got into a heated argument with a security guard at Vasai Fort, who asked him to speak Hindi and leave the complex to take pictures.

According to reports, the man arrived at Vasai Fort wearing traditional clothes resembling Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to record a short video. But security guards prevented him from shooting without permission, after which their altercation went viral on social media.

The man’s anger increased when the guard revealed that he did not know Marathi. “I spoke to you in Hindi out of respect; you should respect Maharashtra by speaking in Marathi. How long have you been working here?” inquired the man.

The guard replied that he had been working for two years and would learn Marathi soon, but the man continued to question him aggressively and asked: “Marathi kyun nahi sekha (Why didn’t you learn Marathi)?”

He also accused the guard of disrespecting the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by not knowing the Marathi language. “You don’t know Marathi, be smart here. Remember, you will become famous for this and may lose your job,” he said.

The video quickly went viral, with some people criticizing the man for violating the principles of Shivaji Maharaj by harassing the guard, while others said the guard needed to teach him a lesson.

A user said: “The guard was wrong when he stopped him from shooting his reel. But the man became wrong when he started misbehaving and demanding to learn Marathi from a poor man who was posted there by an agency. Ask the agency to deploy only Marathi men in Maharashtra and we will see how many security guards are available here.”

“These scams can only act superficially for Shivaji Maharaj and can never imbibe the values our great Hindu leaders of Chad have,” another person wrote. A third person commented: “Dressing like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj means you carry his values - courage, justice and respect for all people, no matter what language they speak. Shivaji Maharaj never disrespected the poor or the weak; he was known to protect them.”

Meanwhile, the Archaeological Society of India (ASI) on Wednesday promised to take appropriate action after the man was banned from entering the historical site.
