An American content creator living in India shared her experience of traveling on the Tejas Express, and showed her surprised reaction to the high-end services.

She said the train trip was very enjoyable and comfortable, and better than many other train trips she had taken before. Shortly after the clip spread online, some social media users clarified that the food was included in the ticket price and was not provided for free. Meanwhile, many appreciated her for sharing this peek into India, rather than showcasing the slums.

The American creative shares her journey

The video posted on Instagram was accompanied by the caption, “Ahmedabad to Mumbai by train. We took a train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai – and it was very convenient. The service was excellent, and all this for just 2,381 rupees or $27. They provided free tea, coffee, breakfast, lunch, dessert and even bottled water. Honestly, one of the best train trips we have taken “With it.”

The video raised a series of questions and inquiries about the train and how the free meal was provided.

Is tea served for free on this train as the content creator claimed?

No, the tea is not free. The food served on this train is included in the fare you pay while booking it. The influencer also explained in the comments sections, “Guys, when we say free, we mean it’s already in the price! It’s mentioned at the beginning of the video. Everything you saw is included – no hidden fees.”Which train is it? In what class do they travel?

The American influencer travels via Tejas Express. It also highlighted the cleanliness and hygiene practices followed by the workers on this train. She booked her ticket for Rs 2,381 in executive class.

Social media reacts to viral train video

In response to the post, one user said: “It’s good to show positive things about India. Most Indians hate their country after moving abroad. You guys are doing a great job.”

While the content claimed the meals were free, one user explained: “It’s not free, it’s added to the cost of the ticket. You can unsubscribe if you don’t want the food.”

One comment read: “Thank you for showing normal life, not weird India in terms of views. Well done girl.”

Someone asked: What is this train? One person replied: “This is Tejas Express. This is one of the few special trains in India which is not run by Indian Railways but by a private company.”

Although she didn’t share which class she was traveling with, one user mentioned “obviously first class.”

Another added: “Train systems, especially the luxury ones, are fun to travel with, fast and well maintained with good service.”

The Tejas Express train, operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), began its regular service in January 2020.
