Moving to a new house is often marked by the Griha Pravesh (moving to a new house) ceremony in India. It is believed that through this ritual the new home is purified and negative energies are eliminated. In many regions, it is traditional to bring a cow into the home during the ceremony as the animal is seen as a symbol of purity.
But for families living in apartments, having a real cow inside the house is not possible. Therefore, they usually donate to cow shelters. But in one unusual celebration, one family found a creative solution: they used a toy cow for their Griha Pravesh ceremony. Yes, read that right.
Cow game at Griha Pravesh ceremony
According to Manorama News, the family made this choice because moving a real cow to an apartment on the top floor was too difficult. During the ritual, the priest chanted the shloka, worshiped the plastic cow and even decorated it.
The video clip, which went viral, showed the cow doll, which is controlled by a remote control, moving inside the house. At one point, he stopped on a mat and the priest picked him up and put him forward so he could continue moving. A child was seen nearby trying to hold the toy in his hands.

What people said online
The video received the attention of many viewers, and opinions varied greatly. Some found the cow game fascinating.
One user simply wrote: “Even the cow said: ‘I’m working remotely today’ while another commented: ‘Modern problem, modern solution.’
Another person commented: “The cow is so cute here. I mean look at her moving with baby steps.”
“Jugaad, our lifeline,” read a cheerful note.
But other viewers criticized the idea because they felt using a game diminished the importance of the ritual, with one viewer writing: “If you can twist your ritual then this ritual is meaningless. Just pray instead.”
One user said: “It’s stupid and not a nice gesture.”
Many people defended the family’s choice and pointed out that the intent behind the ritual is more important than the object used.
One individual shared, “It’s the heart that matters. For people trying to start a new life in an apartment, it’s not very appropriate to bring a real cow. Also, many communities don’t allow bringing pets. Therefore, if there is good intention and there is faith (not blind), such harmless acts are quite nice and satisfying.”
“The power of a ritual lies in the intention, not the subject. If the heart is pure and the faith is sincere, even the symbol can carry a divine meaning,” and “It shows that their intentions for their ritual are pure. That’s only important!” Some other comments were.
