The Meghalaya Police stopped a car belonging to Congress MP Rakpaul Hussain on Thursday, November 13, near the Assam-Meghalaya border. The car driven by MP’s son Tanzeel Hussain was found running a VIP red light despite the MP not being in the car. The entire incident was caught on camera, and the video has now surfaced online.

According to reports, police intercepted the vehicle during a routine check in Umling after noticing the flashing light being used without a permit. VIP signals are intended to indicate the presence of public officials, and using them without approval violates government rules.

“Did the deputy leave the entire family?” Police intercept a vehicle with the MP’s son

The viral video shows Senior Superintendent of Police Ri-Bhoi VS Rathore questioning the driver. He asks: “Ye gadi mein MP baithe hai? (Is the MP sitting in the car?).” The driver replies: “Ladka hai unka (It’s his son).”

The officer presses further, saying, “Deputy baithe hai ki nahi, ye btao (Tell me if the deputy is in the car or not)” and asks for the deputy’s name. The driver answers: Rakbul Hussein. The officer then said: “Rakibul Hossain shahab paythi hai andar? MP hai kya gadi mein? Nahi na phir ke lite jalaya tumne? (Is Rakibul Hussain inside? Is the MP in the car? No? Then why did you turn on the light?).”

He further comments, “Aap log road pe apna aapko bahut bade top samjhte hai. Pura khandaan MP ho gaya hai kya? (You people think you are so important on the road. Has the entire family become MPs?).”

The viral video, shared by a user on Reddit, carries a caption that reads: “SSP VS Rathore, Meghalaya, police intercepted a car using a flashing light for a VIP in Umling last night. Upon investigation, the SSP found out that the car, bearing registration number AS 02 AM 6186, belonged to Rakibul Hossain, Member of Parliament from Dhubri (Assam) Lok Sabha constituency. The car was driven by the MP’s son.”

Assam Minister criticizes Congress

The video sparked reactions on social media. Among them was Assam Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai, who criticized the Congress party on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “This is the VIP culture practiced by INC Assam – even though they are out of power!”

He further wrote: “In this car, which was intercepted by the Meghalaya Police, MP Rockybul Hussain’s son was traveling with a VIP beacon! (In the absence of his father).”

In another tweet, the minister said: “So, the arrogance of Tangail, the son of Assam Congress MP Rakpaul Hussain, in Meghalaya is all over the news. Guess who taught him this sense of entitlement? The real question is – what didn’t they do when they were in power?”

Immediate action taken by police

According to reports, the light was immediately dismantled and the driver was fined for violating government rules.
