A German traveler has garnered attention online after he shared his experience on an Indian train. Alexander Wilder rode Vande Bharat in executive class, describing it as “the most modern train in India”. He said he was impressed immediately upon entering, noting that the elegant seating design resembled the high-speed trains he had seen in Japan and China. He also pointed out the surprisingly spacious upper racks, which can easily accommodate large luggage without any hassle.

One of the features that interested him most were the swivel seats, which allowed him to face the window and enjoy the passing views. He and his friend were seen happily testing the seats during the flight. Alex also demonstrated both types of toilets on the train and gave a glimpse of the meal served to him. His tray contained dal, sabzi, curry, chapati, rice, ice cream and snacks, all covered by a Rs 2,100 executive class ticket for a five-and-a-half-hour flight.

The German traveler is all praise for the Vande Bharat experience

In an Instagram video, Alexander Wilder says: “Today we’re taking a ride on what is considered India’s newest train, Vande Bharat, in executive class. Check out the setup here. It’s like I’m on a Japanese or Chinese high-speed train. Also look at how spacious the overhead compartment is. My luggage is crazy big, but it still fits comfortably in the overhead compartment. One of the very cool things about this train, check out this train, you can actually swivel your chairs so you can face the window. How cool is that?” I’m not sure how we actually locked the chair.

The creator is offering a full meal included in the Rs 2,100 ticket

“Let’s get our soup here, and the next meal has just arrived. This is actually our pre-ordered meal that we pre-ordered online. Here we have chapati, a couple of different curries, rice and vegetables, and we have ice cream. We even got some ice cream for dessert. And we just got snacks that are also included in the ticket. How crazy is that?”

Responding to the post, a user wrote: “I am delighted that our guests from all over the world are enjoying our facilities to the extent of everything on offer. Atithi Devo Bhavah.”

Another said: “This is a really good price compared to Europe. Sometimes you can’t even sit in Germany without reserving seats if the trains are very full.”

One comment read: “Finally saw a rich foreigner, who can afford Vande Bharat.”

“For tourists, this is not the most luxurious. You should try the Maharajas’ Express, Palace on Wheels, Golden Chariot and Deccan Odyssey,” one person stated.

Another stated: “Eventually, the older trains will be phased out and these trains will operate for the general public and the bullet trains will operate for the most economically viable population. We have come a long way to be honest, especially in railways, we have more electrification on our railways than the US or China, and the largest electrified railway network in the world.”

Another added: “Japanese and Korean trains can be high-speed. But Indian trains are spacious. Enough legroom and headroom.”

What seating options does Vande Bharat offer?

Vande Bharat trains offer two seating options. The Chair Car (CC) is a little more compact and comes at a lower price. It is suitable for short to medium trips where comfort is required but luxury is not a priority. On the other hand, an Executive Chair (EC) car offers wider seating, extra legroom and better recline. It provides a premium travel experience suitable for long trips.

Price difference and added amenities

While CC is budget-friendly, EC prices are higher due to the improved convenience and additional services it offers. Both variants come with air conditioning, charging points and clean, modern interiors. However, EC stands out for its swivel seating, sophisticated meal options, quieter cabins and, in some cases, lounge access at select stations.
