Resignation requests are usually followed by a formal farewell from employers. But what if you want to keep a reliable employee? One law firm is going viral on social media for its different, more thoughtful approach to handling a resignation request from a new mum, which has made a real difference.
Managing director/partner of a Malaysian law firm, Ainie Haziqah of Nurainie Haziqah & Co., has received huge praise from social media users after opening up about her flexible approach to a lawyer who was on the verge of resigning.
The employee, a new mother, had asked to resign from the law firm to care for her child. However, Ayni Haziqa’s wonderful response to this simple question made a meaningful difference. I discussed the same in a candid post on Threads, written in a mix of Malay and English.
“I have a lawyer working in my office,” Aini wrote. “One day, she came and said I want to resign. Because he is moving away and he has to take care of the child.” Furthermore, in recognition of the employee’s work and teachability, the President developed a plan consistent with her necessary action regarding child care responsibilities.
“I love her, I love her work. Most importantly, she is very teachable. I took some time to say to her, ‘Okay, can I offer you full-time work?'” Buat kerga kat rumah, she added. “But the meetings kena datang – our fixed meeting sebulan sekali and court cases kena pergi (work from home. But you have to come to the meetings – our fixed meeting once a month and you have to go during court cases).”
In another thread, Ainie shared, “She also took some time to think. I offered her dia, naik sikit gaji (slight increase in salary), full WFH, and self-development training. After a few weeks, she said yes. Thank God, the arrangements took 4-5 months tak silab (smooth). We naturally worked better that way.”

Social media reaction to the law firm president’s honest statements
The post quickly went viral, striking a chord with social media users, who praised the president for her thoughtful leadership. “You are not a boss, but a leader who listens, understands and supports,” one user shared. Another said: “Thank you for being not just a boss, but a leader who listens, understands and supports women’s careers.” One commented: “To be understood this way is a privilege.”
Many others praised her boss for her thoughtful approach to dealing with one of the most common reasons female employees quit. But this inspiring incident showed how modern workplaces should operate with flexibility, empathy and trust.
