Railway stations serve as a crucial means of transportation. In India, metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai have earned the tag of being among the busiest railway stations.

But do you know which railway station is considered the busiest in the world? Hint: It’s in Japan.

Shinjuku Station, located in Tokyo, has been officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the busiest railway station in the world. Nearly 1.27 billion passengers pass through the station to board the train.

Do you think Shinjuku Station has 36 platforms? Up to 3.8 million people pass through its gates.

Shinjuku Station is more than just an ordinary intersection. Inside, it’s like a small city where passengers can eat, shop or simply explore while hopping between trains.

The station includes several shopping malls, stores, underground passages and smaller satellite stations for a healthy experience.

The eastern and western exit gates offer contrasting experiences. While passengers can stop near the entertainment district on the east side, they will find themselves in the modern office district on the west side.

If you think this is the case, you are wrong. A short walk will lead you to the lush Shinjuku Gyoen Garden.

Some nearby attractions include Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatory, located a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku Station West Exit. On clear days, you can also see Mount Fuji from here.

Another highlight is Kabukicho, a lively tourist center with various restaurants and entertainment facilities. There are many bars, clubs, karaoke and cinemas.
