Trafficking and forced marriage
In a separate incident, police rescued a 14-year-old girl from Bihar after she went missing for more than two weeks from Dumka district in Jharkhand. The girl’s grandfather filed a complaint on December 6, stating that she left home saying she was going to a residential training center for tailoring and embroidery but never returned. When early searches failed, police intensified their investigation.
Information collected from local residents revealed that the minor was sold for Rs 80,000 by three women, Chudki Devi (50) of Markunda village, Parvati Devi (55) of Babudih village, and Pinky alias Priyanka Devi (40) of Baksara village in Gowda district. The girl was reportedly trafficked to Arun Singh (27) of Sagiri village in Motihari, East Champaran, and forcibly married.
Based on this evidence, the police raided Singh’s house and rescued the girl. The four defendants were arrested and transferred to judicial custody.
