A Bengaluru woman who was married for 15 years and has a 12-year-old son eloped with a constable, prompting her husband to file a complaint and leading to the constable’s suspension, police officials said on Friday.
According to the complaint, the woman, identified as Monica, left her matrimonial home and disappeared with Raghavendra, a constable attached to HSR Layout police station, where he was working as a Hoysala patrol driver. The incident came to light after the woman’s husband went to Chandra Layout police station, claiming that she had left the house with valuables and money.
The two met through social media and became close over the past few months, police said. Investigators noted that Monica, a native of Mysuru, and Raghavendra, who hails from North Karnataka, were actively sharing short videos on Instagram. Many of these videos have since gone viral, drawing public attention to the case.
The husband told police that he and Monica had been married for nearly 15 years and had a 12-year-old son. He also claimed that Monica was previously married and entered into a second marriage with him after separating from her first husband. Despite years of family life, she allegedly recently developed a relationship with the policeman and eventually left home.
Police confirmed that Raghavendra is also married and has a child. The two reportedly got to know each other in June this year via Instagram, exchanged phone numbers, and began communicating regularly. Within two months, their relationship allegedly became romantic, police sources said.
In a notable development, officials said that Monica herself contacted the Chandra Layut police station about three months ago. She reportedly stated in her complaint that she wanted to rebuild her life and requested police intervention to guide her husband. Based on this complaint, the officers summoned the husband to the police station for advice.
The husband later alleged that during this period, Monica left the house with 160 grams of gold jewelery and Rs 1.80 lakh in cash. After failing to contact her, he filed another complaint stating her disappearance.
Following the complaint and subsequent investigations, senior police officers ordered the suspension of Constable Raghavendra. An investigation is currently underway to trace both individuals and verify the complainant’s allegations. Police said further action will be taken based on the results of the investigation.
