If you’ve been on a busy street in India, you’ve probably noticed the sound of a tumper playing as a constant soundtrack in the background. Drivers hiss at even the smallest inconvenience, whether it’s while waiting for a red light to turn green, being stuck in traffic for an extended period, or when the car in front of them pauses due to a minor engine problem or unexpected obstruction. In India, honking the horn is directly related to the driver’s patience.

Now, a foreign woman traveling from Cherrapunji to Shillong in India with her friends has highlighted a similar situation that has sparked laughter online. She posted a video on Instagram, where she shared that her taxi driver honked the horn so excessively that the horn eventually stopped working. What made the moment even funnier was the fact that the driver, despite knowing it was broken, kept pressing the button repeatedly.

In the clip, when the woman urged the driver to “do it again and honk the horn,” he responded with a laugh, admitting nothing was working. That’s when she jokingly revealed that the driver caused the horn to malfunction by “pressing it several times.” The video concluded with the woman saying: “This is music to my ears.”

“Indian honking is strange.

People beep to pass, to warn, to say “I’m here,” and even in stopped traffic when no one is moving and there is literally nothing to beep at. Roads in India are chaotic, noisy and turbulent. But you embrace the madness. It really became part of the magic,” the woman commented.

The Internet gets a good laugh

“Well, Indians press the horn according to their mood and emergency situation. There will be different musical themes on the same horn, depending on the level of patience,” one user joked. “I hope this happens to all cars in our country so that we civilians can live in peace for at least one day,” read another amusing comment.
