Just like previous winters, the story is no different this year. Once again, the cold season has brought severe air pollution in the Delhi-NCR. People across the national capital and its adjoining areas are waking up to thick smog, reduced visibility, and hazardous air quality levels, as pollution continues to blanket the region. Since the beginning of winter, the air quality index has deteriorated sharply and does not seem to be improving any time soon.
Amid this worsening situation, a foreigner living in Gurugram drew attention to the city’s pollution crisis after sharing a video that quickly went viral on social media. In the clip, she described the view from her high-rise apartment as looking like a “silent hill.” What initially appeared to be a calm, overcast morning was actually dense smog that swept over the area and reduced visibility to almost zero.
She compared the scene to the video game “Silent Hill.”
The foreigner, a model, was seen climbing to the balcony of her apartment, completely amazed by the scene. Then she said: “Gurugram, what happened?” The model then showed the area covered in a thick blanket of smog. Buildings, roads, or trees, nothing was visible from her balcony. Moreover, there were only a few floors below them visible; The rest was covered in thick smog. “Gurugram looks like Silent Hill,” she wrote at the top of the clip.
The internet asks her to leave India as soon as possible
Once the video appeared on the platform, viewers, out of concern, told her it wasn’t fog and told her to stay inside due to the dangerous levels of AQI. “Go inside and make a plan to leave India as soon as possible… It’s not smog, it’s pollution,” one user said.
Another said: “Why did you choose to live in that polluted city anyway? Just because it’s an urban area doesn’t mean it offers quality of life.”
“This game is being played by the government,” another shared, comparing the scene to the Silent Hill video.
Meanwhile, one person pointed out that it was “actually fog”, saying: “This is fog. Let’s not forget what fog looks like, just because we know about Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Achi is wrong, it’s true, but this is fog. It has been a feature of Delhi winters for centuries and is not created by smoke from burning farms, vehicles and industries. However, we definitely need massive air purifiers across the city as an immediate response to the pollution disaster.”
The clip has emerged as the Delhi-NCR region continues to struggle with dangerous winter conditions. Thick fog mixed with pollution reduced visibility to nearly zero in many parts of the region and disrupted transportation services, including flights and trains.
