Apple Watches are designed to keep users connected, offering health tracking, instant notifications, and alerts at a glance. But for Chandigarh man Ratan Dhillon, this constant contact has become exhausting and not comfortable. In a post shared on X, Dillon revealed that he stopped wearing his Apple Watch a year ago and switched to a simple analog watch. He added that this change made life noticeably calmer.
“It’s been a year since I switched from an Apple Watch to a simple analog watch, and honestly, I’ve become more at peace,” Dillon wrote.
“It was distracting.”
He explained that endless notifications and calls have become a distraction, especially while driving. The user also noted that checking the watch during conversations often gave others the impression that he was in a rush or unengaged.
“I became addicted to constant notifications and calls; it was distracting while driving, annoying to keep charging, and even embarrassing in social situations. People thought I was in a hurry or not enjoying their company just because I glanced at my watch,” Dillon wrote.
The man also encouraged others to rethink their reliance on smartwatches, arguing that phones already serve the purpose of notifications. “It should be a watch to tell the time; we already have phones for notifications. Switch to an analogue watch – you’ll feel calmer and better. Trust me!” He added.

Interaction of social media users
The post resonated with social media users, many of whom echoed similar experiences. Many of them praised the simplicity of analog watches, while others shared how they either disabled most smartwatch notifications or stopped using smartwatches altogether due to charging hassles and screen fatigue.
“Beautiful watch! Nothing beats an analog watch,” read a review. Another said: “I always used a traditional watch, and I still use it.”
“Since day one, I’ve turned off all notifications, including calls. I only use it for the purpose it was designed for, which is to track my steps, heart rate, blood oxygen, calories, and sleep. I never use it as a luxury item,” one user shared.
One person stated, “Sir, I’m late to the party. I actually stopped using digital watches, smart watches about 2-3 years ago, I think!! The reasons were the same, mostly charging issues and I didn’t want to bother with anything else.”
“We already have screens in our pockets, we don’t need one on our wrist either. Simpler is definitely better. Enjoy the peace!” commented another.
“Smart move. I only use my Apple Watch during walks or infrequent exercise sessions,” one account posted.
Some echoed that “analog watches are the best, especially automatic watches.”
Most social media users agreed that sometimes less technology can mean more peace. However, some have pointed out that the watch comes at a hefty price tag which is said to be around Rs 3 lakh. One said: “Nice way to show off.”
