Late-night trips can be stressful, but sometimes they bring out the best in people. In Bengaluru, taxi driver Uttam showed incredible honesty after a passenger accidentally left behind a bag containing important documents. The passenger, Vancouver-based founder Glen Evan, had just returned from Kempegowda International Airport at 2:30 a.m. and didn’t even notice the bag was missing until the next morning.
Instead of ignoring the bag, Uttam decided to take action. He went door to door and asked neighbors if they knew the passenger, determined to return the items safely. His efforts eventually led him to meet the passenger’s father on the street, and hand him the bag with all its contents intact.
The driver pursues the passenger persistently
“Meet Uttam, a true Bengaluru hero. At 2:30 am, after a long flight back from KIA, I finally returned home and crashed. In a sleep-deprived state, I left my bag in Uttam’s taxi – along with my passport, PR card, wallet etc. I didn’t even realize it was missing until 10:30 am when my father asked me if I had lost my documents,” Glen wrote on Instagram.
He added: “He spent more than an hour knocking on doors and checking with neighbors to find me. By a stroke of luck, he bumped into my father in the street.”
Glen paid tribute to Uttam, saying: “Uttam saved me from a massive bureaucratic nightmare and months of stress. I am extremely humbled by his honesty and the extra mile he went (literally and figuratively). A man of true integrity.”

Social media reacts to Uttam’s honesty
The post quickly caught attention online. One user wrote: “My friend, this is incredible. It’s good to see the true love and care shared from one human being to another.”
Another said: He is truly one of a kind, and his kindness is very much appreciated, and may God bless him and his family.
Others shared similar thoughts: “Thank you for championing Uttam and this story!”
“What a wonderful human being,” one person said. Glad you got all your things back that you could have lost by losing your passport and PR card.”
One person commented, “The world needs more orphans.” Many expressed relief that Glenn got all his documents back safely.
Gurgaon taxi driver returns valuable laptop to student
Uttam’s story is not unique. Last year, a college student shared on Reddit how a taxi driver in Gurgaon returned a MacBook worth Rs 2 lakh that he had left in his car. “This morning, I called a taxi to go to my college. I was carrying two bags, one was my usual bag and the other was my friend’s laptop bag,” the student wrote.
After the student realized the laptop was missing, he ran outside, still calling the taxi driver. To his relief, the driver was waiting at the gate with the bag in his hand, refusing any reward and saying: “You are like a child to me.”
