Industrialist Harsh Goenka experienced something many Mumbaikars have already been talking about: a ride on the newly commissioned Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line. What followed was not just an appreciation, but a comparison with some of the world’s most famous metro systems.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the head of the RPG group shared how the journey left him truly impressed.
“Yesterday, for the first time, I traveled on the Mumbai Metro. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The station was clean. The train arrived exactly on time. It was efficient, organised, and remarkably uncrowded. Bumping into my office colleagues was a special treat. Having been on the subways in Paris, London and New York, this experience was certainly the best. But it got me thinking. If we can build and maintain world-class metro systems, why can’t we demand the same standards for our routes?” books.

A commuter shared, “I took a ride from Worli to Vile Parle and had the same experience. Clean metro station. Helpful staff. On time metro.”

“When public transportation runs so smoothly, it changes the way people experience the city. It makes you realize that good infrastructure is not a luxury, it is a mindset,” one person said.

Inside The Aqua Line
Mumbai Metro Line 3, commonly known as the Aqua Line, is an underground rapid transit corridor with a length of entirely 33.5 km. It connects Aarey JVLR in North Mumbai to Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai.
The line passes through 26 underground stations and one level station. Some of its major stations include: SEEPZ, Airport Terminal 2 and Terminal 1, BKC, Worli (Acharya Atri Chowk), Mumbai Central, Churchgate and Coffee Parade.
The entire journey from one end to the other takes about 55 to 60 minutes. During peak hours, trains run every five minutes. Services generally operate between 6:00am and 10:30pm.
