A privileged train journey turned into a shocking moment for passengers on the Vande Bharat Express from Patna to Tatanagar, leading to the Railway Ministry taking strict action. The problem started when a passenger shared a video claiming that insects were found in the Amul Dahi cup served on the train. The video quickly went viral, raising serious concerns about food safety on one of India’s luxury trains.
More passengers on the train had similar complaints, saying they had also noticed insects in their meals. Taking the matter seriously, the railways acted quickly, and the company responsible for providing food on the train lost its contract. In addition, a hefty fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on the caterer. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) was also fined Rs 10 lakh.
Railways cancels catering contract and imposes heavy fine
In the video, shared on X, the passenger is seen offering a cup of Amul Dahi as insects were visibly moving around inside. Then he offers another cup with the same problem. He says the second cup belonged to another passenger, and he had already consumed half of it without noticing anything wrong at first. The passenger also claims that he tried to inform train staff about the problem. He asked the manager to take action, but he said no one had come forward to address the complaint.

Soon after the video went viral online, the Railway Ministry responded, “The complaint regarding food quality made by a passenger on Train No. 21896 (Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express) on March 15, 2026 has been taken seriously. Action has been taken, IRCTC has been sanctioned Rs 10 lakh, service provider has been sanctioned Rs 50 lakh and the contract has been ordered to be terminated. Passenger safety and quality remain our top priority.” Priority.”

The railways say safety and quality are the top priority
According to ANI, an Indian Railways spokesperson said that passenger safety and quality of service remain their primary focus. The official explained that the railways do not take such issues seriously. They added that there are strict rules to maintain proper standards, especially on premium trains like Vande Bharat Express, where passengers expect better service and cleanliness.
