An ordinary auto ride in Mumbai turned into a viral moment after an auto rickshaw driver surprised his passenger by singing along to Taylor Swift’s Blank Space. The video was posted on Instagram by content creator Nammya Bhasin, who revealed that she was having a rough day before getting into the car. However, the trip quickly changed her mood when she realized the driver was enthusiastically playing songs by Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and One Direction.
In the clip that has gone viral, the driver can be seen confidently singing along to the song ‘Blank Space’ while driving on the streets of Mumbai. “My driver in Mumbai turned out to be Swifty,” the text overlaid in the video says, referring to Taylor Swift’s devoted fan.
The passenger joined in on the moment, clearly enjoying the driver’s love of pop music. As the trip continued, another detail caught her attention: a sign placed behind the driver’s seat that said: “The meter pays for the trip. Your tip helps me achieve my dream.”
I asked him what dream he was referring to, so I asked him about it. The driver then revealed that he hopes to one day work at JPMorgan Chase.
At the end of the trip, Namia summed up her experience by saying, “I didn’t even have to wear my AirPods, that was amazing,” highlighting how this unexpected encounter turned her day.
“It was my worst day. I got into a random car in Mumbai and he had Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and One Direction playing loudly. Then he started singing. I didn’t put my headphones on once. I asked him later about the sign on his seat. He said he wants to work at JPMorgan one day. I hope he gets there,” she wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
