Losing a job can be stressful, especially later in one’s career. But one pro shared how he managed to turn things around in just a few months.
At 43 years old, after being laid off from Amazon, he found a new role within 90 days. His experience has now become a talking point, with many people looking to his method as a guide.
Shares your job search plan
The man explained that he did not rely on random job applications. Instead, he focused on a clear plan and used his relationships.
“A new job in 90 days. I replaced my salary at Amazon and landed a new leadership role in exactly 90 days at the age of 43. If you’re currently navigating a layoff, don’t panic. Stop blindly applying to job boards on LinkedIn and start implementing a strategy. Here’s the exact playbook I used to get a job,” he shared.
One of his main steps was to reach out to people he knew. He also asked them to connect him with others.
“I end every phone call with one simple question: ‘Can you send my resume to a couple of people in your network who should see it?’” he said.
Focus on strong profiles and references
Aside from communication, he has worked on improving the way he presents himself. He said he started sending out more organized resumes to make a better impression.
He also talked about the importance of references. “Don’t wait for HR to ask you. You’ve built an entire list of former colleagues, agency partners, and clients who can back up every claim you make in the interview room. Treat your references as your closing argument.”
The other key point he made is flexibility. He said that people should not limit themselves to only big companies.
He added: “I didn’t wait for another FAANG company to call. I looked at where the actual growth was happening and chose a startup. Flexibility is the ultimate survival skill. The market is tough, but the roles are there.”
People responded to his advice
Many people online shared their thoughts about his post. Some asked for more details about his process.
“Congratulations, when you pass out a resume, are you sending a specific resume related to a specific job or a general version?” one user asked.
Others have expressed their appreciation for his efforts. One person wrote: “Congratulations my friend. Well done and thanks for inspiring others.”
Some said they found hope in his story. “Glad to see you got that. As a 33 year old working in IT. This was one of my nerves. Seeing you being so nice is enough for me to come to terms with it, and even I would be able to do that.”
A few of them also shared their struggles. “I’ve been laid off since December… I’ve done everything you said above but it’s still hard…” one person commented.
Others were curious about the salary aspect. “Congratulations, but did it match your expected salary or did you have to compromise on that…that’s the important part I want to know.”
