Bengaluru’s rental market has once again become the subject of online jokes after a listing of apartments in Indiranagar left social media users shocked by the asking price. The property is advertised as a fully furnished 2.5 bhk apartment with a monthly rent of Rs 1.2 lakh.
Instead of discussing the location or amenities, many people focused on the rent, with several users joking that the amount was still “very low” by Bengaluru standards. The post quickly turned into a discussion about the city’s high housing costs.
The rental has surprised many users
The listing was shared on

“Fully furnished and airy 2.5 BHK room with balcony for rent in Indiranagar, BLR, Bangalore, near 10th Main Road. Rent – 1,20,000. 1st floor from 6th floor. Parking available, available for families and bachelors alike,” the post read.
The person who shared the listing later clarified that the apartment did not belong to him.
The photos attached to the post showed different parts of the house. One photo showed a covered entrance area with an exercise machine near the entrance. Another showed a dining space with a table and chairs placed near tall windows that let natural light into the interior. The third photo shows a bedroom connected to a living area, with basic furniture, a work desk, bookshelves and a TV.
Users questioned the asking price
Many people felt that the rent seemed unusually high, especially after looking at the pictures.
One user joked: “Bro, why do you keep 3-4k less sometimes?”
Another person asked, “Serious question – what makes this apartment worth this much rent? At least from the pictures, the interior looks very basic.”
The original poster replied, “I agree that the pictures don’t do this property justice. But after the visit, it will be worth it. The indoor and outdoor garden are beautiful and spacious. The pictures were clicked by an old man, so if you really want to see the property, let me know. I’ll be happy to organize the visit.”
Social media turns to sarcasm
The list quickly became a point of discussion, with many users comparing Bengaluru’s rental market to Mumbai’s.
“Rent peak in Bengaluru,” one user wrote. Another commented, “This has reached the level of rent madness in Mumbai. 1.2 lakh for this average apartment is a crazy amount.”
Some users have argued that stronger rental regulations may be needed. “Well, we might need a new enforceable rent control law,” one person wrote.
Another user added: “I love capitalism but being a landlord is the lowest rung of capitalism – it’s just a simple pursuit of rent. However ‘price is what the market can bear’ is the best option out there.”
