A tense video from a Canadian hiking trail has gone viral after a grizzly bear chased a woman and her pet dog deep into the woods. The clip shows how the situation slowly turned dangerous as the bear continued to follow them closely.
The woman can be seen walking backwards while trying to get away from the animal. Her dog repeatedly looks at the bear, while she tries to scare it away by yelling at it to leave.
The bear continues to follow the path
In the video, the grizzly bear stays a short distance behind the woman as she continues to walk away. At some point, the animal slows down, but the tension persists because it does not completely leave the area.
The woman repeatedly tries to stop the bear by raising her voice and warning it to stay away. “No, go away. No.”
The situation becomes more acute when the bear suddenly lunges towards them. The woman does not run, but keeps backing away while screaming assertively to scare her away.
“Stop. Go away. Enough. Stop,” she was heard saying as she made eye contact with the animal and directed her dog away from danger.
After a few scary moments, the bear finally stopped chasing them and returned to the forest. The video ends with the woman and her dog leaving the area safely, and they appear shaken but unharmed.
Experts highlight wildlife safety
The clip was later shared online by commentator Tony Lane, who described it as one of the most intense wildlife encounters ever seen on video. He praised the woman for remaining calm under pressure during the incident. He also reminded hikers to use safety equipment while visiting these areas.
“If you hike, camp, or spend any real time in the wilderness — bear spray isn’t optional, it’s the difference between a story you tell and a story someone else tells about you,” he wrote.

Social media interaction with the clip
The video sparked strong reactions online, with many users describing the situation as terrifying and praising the woman for remaining calm under pressure.
One user wrote: “This is a smart, brave woman. Animals understand the strength in your voice. Short stabs of words like ‘no’ and ‘stop’ translate into hesitation in the animal. She also didn’t turn her back on the bear. Excellent!”
A woman hiking in Canada almost became a grizzly’s next meal, and the video making the rounds now is truly one of the most amazing wildlife scenes you’ll ever see – her dog with her, and a huge grizzly there, and somehow she kept her head together for so long… pic.twitter.com/VutSzXLeXM– Tony Lane 🇺🇸 (@TonyLaneNV) June 26, 2026
Another wrote: “OMG! My heart is racing just watching this. Kudos to that woman for doing what she did. You can’t turn your back on a bear (or any predator that actually shows intent to attack). This bear wanted her dog.”
One user added: “Absolutely. A grizzly bear attacks you and one of your instincts is to record it and keep the bear in frame the whole time. I don’t think so.”
Another comment read: “Scary. Spent a lot of time working and playing in Glacier National Park and saw them, saw a few of the victims who were alive being dismembered by helicopter and just generally freaked out. I met Timothy Treadwell there too and asked him about his fears of the one he photographed in Alaska as well, ironically having one of them eat him many years later.”
Another user said, “The bear knows he can kill you. You just need to convince him that you are a very difficult target. Foxes can kill cats. They know it. They don’t even try because it’s a hurricane of claws that takes a month to heal + infection.”
Another person simply commented: “I had my pants down watching that.”
