In today’s era, where people start thinking about creating their own home once they get married, a unique family has emerged from Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh which is nothing less than a wonder of our times. There are not one or two, but 83 members in this great family. What’s even more special is that even today, 6 generations of this family live together lovingly under one roof. As small families become common in the country, this clan beautifully preserves the centuries-old joint family tradition.

4 different houses, but the whole family works under one command.

According to a PTI report, the heads of the Nagappa family living in Kurlapalli village in Anantapur district are Hanumantharayudu and Muthyalappa. This large family includes 6 mothers-in-law, 14 daughters-in-law, 20 children, and many grandparents and elders. Although this large family uses 4 different houses built side by side to live, their living, eating, drinking, happiness and sadness are all the same. All family members earn together and all family expenses are managed from one place.

We meet for coffee every morning and the food is prepared in the same kitchen.

The daily routine of this super family runs like that of a large company. Every morning, the elders in the house sit together to have coffee and plan for the day, says Hanumantrayudu, the head of the family. At this meeting it is decided what will be cooked for dinner today, who will go to work in the fields and who will take care of the responsibilities of the house. The biggest specialty of this family is their shared kitchen. Together, the daughters-in-law cook food for 83 people and everyone eats the food together.

Running 4 buses with agriculture, that’s how they resolve conflicts

Agriculture is not the only source of income for this family. The family also has 4 buses of its own, which ply between Kalyandurgam and Karnataka. The entire income from agriculture and buses is collected in one place, providing strong financial strength for the family. Now, if there are 83 people living in such a large family, it is natural that sometimes there will be differences of opinion, but the elders say that there is a rule in their house that any quarrel that occurs throughout the day, must be resolved by sitting together before nightfall. Respect and love for each other is the true secret of the unity of these six generations.
