Bedridden for nearly two years after a serious car accident, Rohtash Chaudhary refused to let his injury define him. Years later, he added another achievement to his name by setting a new Guinness World Record. The 41-year-old, known as the ‘Indian push-up man’, completed 847 push-ups in one hour while carrying a backpack weighing 27.21 kg, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The record was set at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, with officials counting every repetition as Chaudhary completed the challenge in front of spectators. His efforts also broke the previous record set by Syrian Sami Juma Hassan in 2023.

How he broke the record

A video posted by the official Instagram page of Guinness World Records shows Choudhary walking on stage with his heavy backpack before the challenge begins. He maintained a steady pace throughout the hour as officials closely monitored each push-up.

After confirming the record, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya presented Chaudhary with the Guinness World Records certificate along with arbitrator Aine Toraballi.

Speaking after his achievement, Chaudhry said: “Records are not just meant to be broken, they are meant to remind us that human potential has no limits. If you believe in yourself and remain consistent, you can achieve the impossible.”

His journey from recovery to records

The achievement came after months of disciplined training. Choudhury followed a strict daily routine that included several sets of weighted push-ups early every morning. He also focused on a high-protein diet and mental preparation to help him stay ready for the challenge.

His story is made even more inspiring by what he went through years ago. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Chaudhry was involved in a serious car accident that left him unable to move for nearly two years. Instead of giving up, he underwent a long rehabilitation process before returning to fitness.

Over time, he began to attempt different world records and continued to achieve new achievements. “Since then, he has been attempting to achieve numerous world records, and this year marks his 10th anniversary as a consistent record breaker,” Guinness World Records said.

The organization also added, “Today, Rohtash continues to train daily without fail, constantly striving to push his limits. His biggest motivation is to share the joy and importance of fitness with the younger generation.”

Apart from setting records, Chaudhary is also an ambassador for the Fit India Movement, an initiative of the Government of India that encourages people to adopt healthier and active lifestyles.

The Fit India movement aims to make fitness an integral part of daily life and encourage a more physically active lifestyle. The movement was launched as a grassroots movement for fitness. The UCI has lauded the Fit India movement for promoting cycling and public health.
