Poorly constructed roads, deep potholes, loose gravel, and poorly maintained infrastructure often cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. Across the country, thousands of people are losing their lives or sustaining injuries due to dangerous road conditions. In many cases, two-wheelers slip and fall, cars roll over, or vehicles crash while trying to avoid damaged spots.
However, a terrifying video from Etawah has once again highlighted the dangers posed by neglected road maintenance. The 43-second clip, which is now circulating widely on social media, captures the terrifying moment when a motorcyclist narrowly escaped death after slipping on loose gravel left unattended on a busy stretch of road.
The accident occurred early Monday morning. With no warning signs, barriers or safety measures, the two-wheeler skidded within seconds, causing the driver to fall onto the road.
Ballast on Ramlila Road in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh or a feast for accidents? Gross negligence by the municipality. A major accident could occur at any time due to ballast being scattered on the road without a warning sign. When will the administration wake up? pic.twitter.com/DHpkLfQiYc

How did the Internet react?
These images, which were widely circulated on the X website, sparked sharp criticism of local authorities and reignited the debate over civic accountability. Many users expressed anger at the practice of leaving gravel and construction debris unattended on public roads. Many others shared similar experiences, claiming that sudden road digging or failure to monitor construction materials had caused accidents in the past.
One comment said: “Someone must sacrifice his life before the local administration wakes up from its slumber.”
Another said: “I don’t know why these people throw gravel on the road like this? This practically invites accidents. I personally slipped on such gravel twice.”
One user shared: “In February last year, I had an accident due to the same condition… I was riding my bike on the same road for years, and one day I dug the road without a board and my accident occurred.”
Another revealed: “Once again, I fell on the road to pay my respects. It’s a common thing in rural India.”
Another commented: “Until at least 2-4 people lose their lives, these people will not wake up from their sleep. Just watch, this is exactly what will happen.”
Some users called for municipal authorities to be held accountable, saying: “The mayor should take responsibility for this. But as always, it’s India, so no action will be taken.”
Despite the seriousness of the accident, the motorcycle driver survived his injuries. The consequences could have been much more tragic if a heavy vehicle had been used instead of a car.
