Chaitra Navratri 2026: What do you know?
This year, Chaitra Navratri celebrations began on March 19 and will continue until March 27. It begins with Ghatasthapana on the first day and ends with the celebration of Ram Navami on the ninth day.
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga was created after combining the energies of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahesh to defeat the demon king Mahishasura, who terrorized the universe. Her victory restored balance and righteousness.
The auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri ends with Ram Navami celebrating the birth of Lord Ram, who symbolizes truth and moral values. This is the reason why Chaitra Navratri is also called Ram Navratri, according to Drake Panchang.
Every year, devotees begin the festival with Gatashapana, where a sacred kalash is installed in their homes and barley seeds are sown, representing growth and prosperity.
Regularly, devotees perform pujas to all nine forms of the goddess, offering flowers, lamps, incense, fruits and sweets.
Honoring the divine feminine power, the Chaitra Navratri festival celebrates the victory of good over evil and encourages people to search for inner strength, spiritual growth and moral discipline.
In many regions, it also marks the Hindu New Year, when people look forward to new beginnings, hope and positivity.
