In Bengaluru’s busy RT Nagar area, a disturbing video has sparked outrage online. The clip, filmed near the bridge near a Shell gas station, shows a heated altercation between a traffic police officer and a taxi driver that quickly turns physical. According to the message shared with the video, the driver had only stopped his car for five minutes when the officer started shouting and abusing him. Shortly after, he allegedly slapped the driver in front of the crowd, shocking bystanders.

Eyewitnesses said the officer’s behavior was “a very bad act by a traffic policeman” and described it as an abuse of power. Many expressed anger at how arguments over parking can turn into violence, saying such incidents damage public confidence in law enforcement.

The video shows a heated argument on the main road

The clip, which is one minute and thirty seconds long, begins with an argument between the officer and the taxi driver on the road. The policeman was seen trying to snatch the driver’s phone while the driver refused to give it to him. The two continue to scream as the vehicles pass by.

The driver tries to explain his side, but the officer stops him on the side of the road. Another person sitting in a nearby car recorded the video, which ended with the two quarreling in the middle of traffic.

Public reactions are pouring in online

The video, which was posted on October 22, has already received more than two thousand views and sparked a wave of mixed comments. Some users defended the policeman’s duty, but criticized the way he handled the situation.

One user wrote: “A taxi driver parking in the wrong place is not an innocent matter. While assault by an officer should be condemned, at the same time, encouraging illegal habits such as parking in the wrong places should not be considered a kerbside. Such habits pose a danger to others nearby and create traffic jams.”

Others were more critical of the officer’s actions. Another commented: “The point of uniforms is to gain respect, not fear. When a simple parking dispute escalates into an assault, it indicates a systemic failure. The real problem is not a parking space, but an abuse of power.”

One person pointed out how public servants should remember their duties to the people. “In India, people in positions of power are often treated like gods. But the irony is that it is the citizens who pay the taxes, and their salaries come from our hard-earned money. In reality, they are meant to serve the people, respect the citizens, and work for the well-being of the nation.”

Some also shared personal experiences, alleging corruption among some officers. “Traffic cops near Krishna Mills Circle, Seshadripuram, demanded Rs 500 as fine from me as a jumping signal. They tampered with the signal from green to red when I had just crossed, and after a long argument, I paid them and went home. They are thieves in disguise,” claimed another user.
