Does corporate reality differ from external enthusiasm for the AI revolution?

Although AI tools have significantly transformed and revolutionized the world of technology, companies in India have not fully embraced the new era and are imposing data security regulations on their technologists. In a post shared online, a man claimed that his software development engineer friend, who works for a “large multinational company,” was banned from using new AI-based models as a potential programming companion.
“Today, I was talking to a friend who works as a development engineer at a large multinational company. I asked him about all the new AI models that are released every two weeks. He seemed really surprised. He didn’t even know most of them,” the person said of his friend, who was hired for a programming job at a multinational company.
“Aren’t you using AI in programming?”
Upon discovering the reality of their corporate lives, disconnected from the AI revolution, the individual said his tech friend admitted that he was not aware of the programming tools he was discussing because he was “not allowed” to use them at work. The developer confirmed that all AI tools are blocked by his organization while working on client projects.
Today I was talking to a friend who works as an SDE engineer at a major MNCI company and he asked him about all the new AI models being released every two weeks. He seemed genuinely surprised because he didn’t know most of them
Then I asked him: “Don’t you use artificial intelligence in programming?”
He said it is not permissible for him to do that.

“I asked him, ‘Aren’t you using AI in programming?’ He said he’s not allowed to. All AI tools are blocked while working on client projects,” the post read. When the technician is asked to provide further explanation of the scenario at hand, it is understood that the technician has pointed out applicable data security limitations.
“The reason? Customers don’t want their proprietary code used as training data,” the post added.
Techie Mode strikes a chord online
As a post about a developer friend facing obstacles in using AI tools to streamline his daily operations gained traction online, people sympathized with the person and shared their own stories of the corporate world having restrictions on the use of AI.
“Even though a new AI paradigm comes out almost every day, it takes companies a lot of time to adopt it. In my office job, I only used ChatGPT or Copilot,” one person shared.
Another person commented: “Company restrictions slow policy adoption. Policies often lag behind capabilities. Builders outside of large systems move more quickly.”
However, one user wondered if the issue was specific to the developer’s current organization. They said: “You have met the wrong person. In all major companies, AI is used for encryption. We get an institutional license where data is not shared. This is how legitimacy works.”
In general, my tech friend wondered if we live in two different worlds at the moment. While outside the corporate world is enthusiastically embracing AI, inside there is caution and limited compliance due to client security and risk.
