Mumbai is preparing to welcome its second international airport. After a long wait, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is finally close to opening its doors. Since its launch in October, people have been eagerly waiting for the updates. Now, the big moment is almost here, as the airport is set to operate its first commercial flights on December 25, and Akasa Air becomes the first airline to begin scheduled services from the new terminal. However, soon after the airline published the pricing details, many people became confused.
A one-way ticket from the new airport was listed at around Rs 14,000, while the same route from Mumbai T2 was priced at just Rs 3,000. This sharp difference quickly became a point of discussion, raising concerns among passengers who were hoping for more affordable travel options.
Huge price gap between NMIA and Mumbai T2 raises questions
A user shared a screenshot of Akasa Air’s booking page for flights from Mumbai to North Goa airports on January 8. The fare from NMIA was quoted at Rs 14,848, while the same flight from T2 was priced at around Rs 3,000. The drastic difference left travelers stunned, with one post even joking that the higher fare from the new airport made passengers feel like they were paying a fee for a business class seat.

Akasa Air responds to the viral post
After the post circulated online, Akasa Air quickly responded, saying: “Hi, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We have reviewed your issue, and it has now been resolved. We look forward to welcoming you on board.”
Unsatisfied with the response, the page asked: “Akasa has addressed our concerns, which has affected everyone. But how will this be resolved for those who have already paid Rs 14,000 to book the flight?”
In response to the post, one user wrote: “If this kind of price appeared now, one could buy the flight, because normal people need cheaper flights.”
Another said: “If you search twice, Akasa will increase the fare. I’ve tried them increasing the fare from the booking page to the payment page as well. Even on their website.”
“Mumbai T2 is OG,” one comment read.
Another added: “Mira route to Navi Mumbai in a taxi, 2000 + 14000 airport fare + Goa taxi fares for taxis. We are doomed.”
Akasa Air expands its bookings to more cities
Apart from Goa, Akasa Air has also started taking bookings for other routes, such as Ahmedabad, Kochi and Delhi. Air India Express and IndiGo are also gearing up to start their services from Navi Mumbai International Airport by the end of the year.
