Festivals in Andhra Pradesh are often known for their food, family gatherings and big celebrations. Sankranti, in particular, holds special meaning because it brings relatives together after the harvest season. This year, one family from the Kunasima district took their celebrations to another level.
What started as a traditional welcome for a newly married couple quickly turned into a feast that caught attention far beyond the village, thanks to its size, detail and cultural touch.
A grand Sankranti gesture for the Andhra family
A family from Adurru village in Mamidikuduru mandal, Konaseema, Andhra Pradesh, recently hosted a Sankranti celebration which has now gone viral. The celebration was organized by Vijabhu Venkata Ratnam and his wife Sushila for their daughter Keerthisree and son-in-law Bodhu Sai Sharath.
This occasion was the couple’s first visit to the bride’s home after marriage, a moment that carries deep cultural significance in many families. To make this event unforgettable, the family planned a grand reception that would stand out in scale.
The family prepares 1,374 dishes for the couple
According to details shared online, the family prepared an astonishing 1,374 types of food items and sweets for the couple. The spread reflects the rich food culture of the Godavari Delta, known for its generous portions and festive cooking.
Welcome signs decorated with warm messages were placed throughout the venue, adding a personal touch to the celebration. These details showed the effort made to make the couple feel special and proud during their visit.
In the video that is now doing the rounds on social media, the newly married couple can be seen sitting together as they look around at the massive space laid out in front of them. The camera moves slowly across rows of dishes carefully arranged on tables.
From biryani and burgers to fried snacks, yogurt, fresh juices, desserts, fresh fruits, homemade snacks and many other items, the variety seems endless. It also contains selected dishes from different places in the region, all carefully arranged. The visual focus remains on the size of the food, highlighting the amount of care and planning that went into the feast.
Apart from food, the hosts also presented 12 symbolic gifts to the couple. These gifts represented the 12 months of the year and were meant to wish the newlyweds happiness and abundance throughout their married life.
How do people interact with the video?
As the clip spread, opinions continued. One person commented, saying: “What is the benefit of this… At least try to donate some sweets to the poor children… so they will feel happy… and receive blessings.”
“I want to watch him end it all,” another wrote. “The same people will cry if the groom asks for dowry,” said one, while another added: “This offer is very popular in Godavari districts, AP every year. I really don’t know what examples they are setting for the society.”
Some comments were lighter in tone as well. “But it’s a very small panel,” one user said. Another wrote: “I belong to that area.. sabak sab shubaaz hai.. bakar hai.” One of them also noted, “I wish daughters-in-law also got such treatment at all.”
