The pothole problem in Bengaluru has once again caught everyone’s attention after a frustrated car owner shared his experience online. In a post filled with equal parts anger and exhaustion, the man described how one bad patch of road turned his recently serviced car into a repair project once again.
His post summed up what many in the city feel every day: that keeping a vehicle in Bengaluru traffic is almost impossible when the roads themselves pose the biggest threat.
He shared his story with a touch of humor and frustration, hinting that he may soon prefer to fix the roads himself rather than pay taxes on them. The post quickly became a talking point among residents who say driving on Bengaluru’s roads has become an expensive gamble.
He spent Rs 23,000 on the service, then fell into a hole
In his post titled ‘Bangalore Roads and My Car :)’, the user wrote: “I spent 23 lakhs on servicing my car just last week. The suspension is completely gone, so I had to replace it.” He also stated: “I did everything the service center recommended to make sure the car was in perfect condition. Finally I got it back, all shiny and smooth, and I thought, well, finally peace of mind.”
But this peace did not last long. “Yesterday, I took it on a regular ride to the office. My usual route includes the Outer Ring Road (HSR-Marathahalli), Brookfield, and sometimes Varthur. And of course, while passing through Varthur, I hit one of those huge potholes they call potholes. Immediately after that, my car started making strange noises. It turned out that my exhaust pipe was damaged,” he added.
“I’d rather pay someone to fix the roads.”
The car owner went on to say that the repair would cost him another Rs 5,000. “Honestly, I’m so tired of this nonsense. I’ve already spent so much just to keep my car running, and all it takes is one pathetic stretch of road to ruin everything,” he wrote.
He added: “At this point, I would rather pay someone directly to fill the potholes on my daily route than pay road tax to a government that clearly doesn’t care.”

The Internet reacts with ridicule and support
The post on Reddit struck a chord with Bengaluru residents who deal with similar issues on a daily basis.
“BLR is not into sedans, either buy a Thar or that high hatchback,” one user joked.
Another commented: “Buy a tractor.”
“Everyone I see is offering band-aids instead of addressing the real problem,” one person said, referring to poor road maintenance.
“No wonder the Indian car market is full of SUVs, you just need one to survive on these roads,” another commented.
