A video that has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district has once again raised questions about the quality of the midday meal regime. A video that went viral on social media showed alleged negligence regarding milk provided to children at a government primary school. The video shows two half-liter cans of milk being mixed in a bucket of water in the kitchen. This milk was allegedly later served to the children.

Just half a liter of milk mixed in a bucket full of water

As soon as this video went viral on social media on Friday, the Department of Education swung into action. According to media reports, Mahoba Basic Education Officer Rahul Mishra said that this incident occurred on Wednesday, and in the investigation conducted by the Block Education Officer, it was prima facie revealed that the same milk that was found in the water was distributed to the children. Subsequently, the school’s principal, Monica Soni, was suspended with immediate effect. The Ministry confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway, and if any further violations emerge, strict measures will be taken against the persons concerned. The video clearly shows the woman pouring half a liter of milk into a bucket completely filled with water at school.

This error has already appeared

This is not the first case in which violations of the midday meal have been uncovered. Earlier, similar cases were also reported in Meerut, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur, where there were allegations of mixing water in milk or serving only bread and salt to children. The aim of the central government’s ‘PM Poshan’ scheme is to improve the nutritional standard of children studying in government schools, but the emergence of such videos is affecting the credibility of the scheme.

Some described the matter as a lack of administrative oversight, while others called for strict measures to be taken against the perpetrators.
