Initially, the helicopter was seen leaning dangerously as it attempted to take off from a sandy area near the beach. Moments later, he hovers low above the water, struggling to stabilize as the waves crash beneath him.

The tail of the helicopter broke before it crashed. The pilot was able to raise it slightly above the shallow water, but he quickly lost control and the plane fell.

In the final moments, the helicopter made a sharp turn before plunging into the water, followed by a column of spray.

What happened?

As many as five people were killed after a Russian Ka-226 helicopter carrying senior staff from a defense-linked airline crashed near the village of Achi-Su on Friday.

Among the victims were the deputy general director, chief engineer and chief designer of KEMZ, as well as the helicopter’s flight mechanic.

According to Russian media reports, the helicopter was en route from Kizlyar to Izberbash when it caught fire in the air, forcing the crew to attempt an emergency landing.

Eyewitnesses said the pilot tried to land the plane on a beach along the Caspian Sea, but it eventually crashed into the yard of a private residence in the Karabudakhkent region.

The accident also led to the outbreak of a fire that spread over an area of ​​approximately 80 square meters before firefighters were able to extinguish it.
