Travelers often forget essentials like car keys, earphones, and watches on flights and trains while commuting long distances. In such cases, some people file a complaint with the airlines or railway stations concerned to recover the lost items.
Recently, a Vande Bharat passenger traveling to Egmore faced a similar situation, but the quick recovery of the lost item impressed social media users.

The passenger was identified as Mariano Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, a neurosurgeon based in Chennai. He left his watch in the bathroom of Vande Bharat Express.
The doctor arrived at Egmore station at 11pm on October 17 and identified his missing wrist watch after arriving home. By 12:28 a.m., he had filed a complaint on the RailMadad website, including the passenger record number, bus, seat number and a brief description of the incident.

The response from Southern Railway and Railway Protection Force (RPF) was very quick. The doctor shared a detailed timeline of quick action after his complaint:
12:31 AM I received a call from Railway Helpline: Confirmation of complaint
12:34 AM I received an SMS from the railway helpline
12:49 AM I got a call from RPF saying the car went into the yard and they asked to check the yard
01:12 AM I received a WhatsApp message containing two pictures of my watch
01:13 AM I received a second call from RPF saying they found a watch and wanted to check if it was mine.
“This is great work from everyone involved. To be honest, this is not really a ‘complaint’. There is nothing wrong with the railways. It was my fault for keeping the watch on the train.”
“Ten workers worked within 40 minutes of my online complaint, in the middle of the night, through no fault of their own,” the post added.
Southern Railway Efficiency
The next morning, the man submitted the necessary documents, including his ticket and Aadhaar, and received his watch.
“This morning I went to the station, gave a letter requesting the watch, copies of my ticket and Aadhar and got my watch back after signing the register,” he added.
The neurosurgeon praised the dedication of the Southern Railway and RPF staff, stressing the moral of the whole incident: “Keep calm and trust the government” and the Tamil proverb “(file a complaint immediately).”
The prompt action taken by the Indian Railways leaves Desis impressed
The quick and positive action taken by the Indian Railway authorities has impressed social media users.
One X user commented, “Appreciation should be as loud as criticism.” Another dropped a GIF saying “miracle.” A user shared, “I lost a handbag in the train, my complaint was filed to register an FIR, I had to run a column to get the same action registered on the FIR, nothing.”
“It’s good you shared because only hate spreads and not good deeds,” read a comment. “This is amazing. Kudos to everyone involved,” one user wrote.
Adding a fun element to the scene, one user said, “Go Go Crimemaster…tumhare hote yeh kya ho gaya…”
The incident highlights the efficiency and responsiveness of Indian Railways’ complaint redressal system, indicating a focus on providing prompt solutions to passengers, even late at night.
