Chhath Puja, a four-day Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God (Surya), and Chhathi Maya begins today, October 25. It is celebrated mostly by the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. As the celebrations begin today, festive fervor has swept across many cities across India.
In Delhi, a heavy rush of migrant workers was seen at the railway station, heading to their hometowns to celebrate the holy holiday with their families.
Chhath Puja song at New Delhi railway station
In a video shared on X, the Chhath Puja song can be heard playing through the microphone instead of the train announcement.
Sharing the clip, a man working at the station said, “I am doing my duty at New Delhi main station, and here the song Chhath Miya is playing. I cannot say what kind of feeling I am having. For the people of Bihar. The song of desire and the festival of desire, there is nothing better than this in the world.”
(I am on duty at New Delhi station, and the Chath Maya song is being played. I cannot describe the feeling. For the people of Bihar, nothing is more beautiful than the Chath song and the Chath festival in the world.)
Goosebumps for every Bihari, this is the power of your one voice Passengers struggle to reach their hometown
In contrast, another video caught attention where a local migrant shared his ordeal while traveling on Indian Railways during Chhath Puja 2025. Despite the government announcing 1,500 new trains to handle the festive rush, passengers were seen struggling due to lack of options.
In a video, a migrant worker traveling on the Awadh Assam Express said he had been sitting in the same position for more than 24 hours and had not even used the bathroom since then. Not only that, he said that he avoids drinking water and there is no place on the train to get off.
This was very frustrating to watch.
This is the Awadh Assam Express – people who sit for 24 hours straight.
They did not use the bathroom once, and completely avoided water.

Indian jugaad inside the train
Another clip highlights the situation of Indian Railways where a man was seen hanging in a bedsheet hammock inside a train for 12 hours straight during his journey to Bihar to attend Chhath Puja celebrations. The passenger said that he had not eaten anything or used the bathroom since boarding the train.
A young man hanging on a bedsheet hammock inside a train – no food, no bathroom, just struggling to survive. Some may call it ‘creativity’, but those who know the pain of being a Bihari will see helplessness transformed into innovation. This is not a talent, but rather a compulsion… pic.twitter.com/EKgFOT71Dk– Diplomatic Talk (@talk_prabhat) October 25, 2025
What does the Internet have to say?
“These people should remember this on voting day. Bihar, despite having brave and hardworking youth, is one of the most backward states. The reason is lack of political will,” an X user commented.
Another wrote: “I think this is due to reservations on trains.” One of them said: “There is no infrastructure in the world that can handle such a large movement of people in a day. India is doing a very good job of managing it. Yes, we can do better and efforts are being made every year to ease congestion.”
“Congestion is not only about the number of trains, but also about preferences. Special trains still have seats or less waiting, but people skip them because they are usually late,” one person wrote. Another said: “With fuel prices rising, resulting in higher ticket prices on buses. We need a large number of passenger trains to meet the demand. Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, etc. are fine, I really appreciate it. But focus on this, please.”
Chhath Puja celebrations will end on Tuesday, October 28. The last day is marked by the Usha Arghya ritual, where devotees offer prayers to the rising sun.
