Extravagance knows no bounds in the UAE. Aside from exotic cars and towering skyscrapers, the use of wild animals as pets has long been a status symbol among the wealthy elite. Social media platforms are filled with videos of lions, cheetahs and tigers lounging next to their owners or strolling through the palm tree-lined streets of Dubai.
It seemed like a normal evening in Dubai until a video emerged showing a lion peeking out the window of a luxury car. The stunned passengers quickly took out their phones, thinking they were watching a scene straight out of a movie.
The new clip now shows the lion serenely staring at city lights and passing vehicles as the luxury car cruises through Dubai’s evening traffic. The video, which was posted on Instagram and filmed by bystanders, sparked controversy online, with some users suggesting it may not be real. News18 was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the clip.
How do social media users interact?
As onlookers recorded the unprecedented spectacle, debate quickly heated up. Some viewers are convinced the lion is real, while others insist it is an AI-generated clip. The video has already garnered thousands of views and shares, without a clear answer as to whether the lion is real or artificial.
One user said: “Totally fake. Watch how he moves his head.”
Another quipped: “I would love to see someone try to attack that car.”
“Just cruising,” read a comment.
One person said: “I want this not to be AI! I want to know someone is taking their pet lion for a drive!”
“I’m definitely going to try this,” one user said.
One account posted: “I would be willing to say the car will not get stolen.”
Similar video of pet tiger
Earlier, another video clip posted on an Instagram page showed a man happily running away from his pet tiger within the confines of his luxurious home in Dubai.
At first, the man in the now-deleted video appeared to be having a blast, wearing a grin as his pet tiger chased him. However, the situation takes a turn for the worse when he stumbles and falls to the ground, discovering that the majestic cat is not in the mood for antics.
