The Maharashtra suburb of Mira Bhayandar seems to have gained a strange reputation for attracting attention online. But significant development work is rare. Instead, there is often something unusual that catches the eye. A few weeks ago, the area made headlines after the bridge’s design sparked controversy because a four-lane stretch suddenly narrowed to two lanes at one point.
Now, another video from the suburb is going viral on social media. This time it’s for a public restroom that many viewers say looks like it’s straight out of ancient times.
Unusual design of public toilets in Mira Bhayandar
The clip shows four Indian-style squat bowls placed in a row inside the toilet. What surprised people most was the complete absence of partitions or partitions between them, which leaves absolutely no privacy for users.
The space also appears to be poorly maintained. The tiles look dirty, one mop is visible leaning against the wall, and the entire place looks neglected and unsanitary.
According to the video, the facility is located on RNP Road in Bhayandar East district.
The caption shared with the clip reads: “What is wrong with Mira Bhayandar authorities? After building this world-class bridge, what kind of public toilet is this?”
What people say online
The unusual design of the toilet sparked various reactions from social media users. Many expressed disbelief while others responded with humor and sarcasm.
One user commented: “The flyover outside is world-class, but this looks like a toilet design from another century. Public infrastructure must meet the standards the authorities claim to provide. Basic dignity and cleanliness cannot be an afterthought.”
Another wrote: “They took the word ‘public restrooms’ literally.”
“OMG! Please tell me this is an AI generated video prank and was not actually conceived by stupid planners. But if this is real, this design should be immediately replicated in the homes of all these planners at government expense,” another person wrote.
“Awesome workmanship by Bhayandar authorities,” one person commented, while another described the facility as a “public toilet from Roman times.”
One viewer said: “This is the idea of a toilet for someone who has never used one, that is, defecated in the open, in a village, a farm, or a similar place.”
“The group discussion space has opened up” and “The toilet has opened up” and “This is incredible” and “What kind of wonder is this?” There were some other notes.
Mira-Bhayandar Flyover design that sparked controversy
The newly constructed bridge at Mira-Bhayandar has already caught the attention of the public even before it is completely opened for traffic. The structure connects Mira Bhayandar Road to Golden Nest Circle, which is one of the busiest intersections in the district with heavy traffic throughout the day.
What caught people’s attention was the unusual track design where the four-lane stretch suddenly narrows to two lanes at one point. The bridge is being built as part of the Mumbai Metro Line 9 project.
