In the ongoing Operation Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, which saw security forces eliminating terrorists in the forest belt, one of the heroes talked about was not a soldier, but a specially trained police dog named Tyson – who continued the mission even after being shot.

According to officials, Tyson, who is attached to the Special Forces, was the first to confirm the presence of terrorists in the area of operations on Sunday morning. As the troops advanced through the dense terrain, the dog moved in front of the column to track down the hideout and was shot in the leg, News18 Indian said in a report.

Despite the injury, Tyson remained with the team, helped the troops establish communications with the militants, and played a key role in directing the troops to the hideout, officials said. He was later airlifted to the Army Hospital in Udhampur, where he is now stable and recovering, according to a separate report by Jammu and Kashmir-based Daily Excelsior newspaper.

Army officials told News18 Indian that Tyson was part of several major operations and was trained to detect explosives, identify suspicious locations and help track terrorists during search missions. His role has repeatedly assisted troops in locating hideouts in difficult terrain.

The Kishtwar encounter itself resulted in a major success for the security forces, as JeM commander Saifullah was among three terrorists killed during the operation in Basarkot area of Shatru belt. Saifullah, a Pakistani national, was active in the Doda-Kishtwar area for years and was linked to multiple attacks, according to security officials.

The army said that weapons and ammunition, including assault rifles, were found at the site, describing the operation as a major blow to militant activity in the area.
