In a unique moment, Aditya Dhar’s 2025 blockbuster film ‘Dhurandhar’ was the main topic of conversation between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Finnish President Alexander Stubb during a morning jog.
Stapp posted a video on social media showing him running with Mark Carney, accompanied by their wives, Diana Carney and Susan Ennis Stapp. “No ice hockey rinks available, so enjoy a nice morning run in Hyde Park with PM @MarkJCarney, Diana and Susan.”
At one point, Carney asked Stapp: “How were you on Instagram in India?” The Finnish president responded, saying: “It was huge after I said I watched Durandar, and then I realized it was not a game at all. But yes.”
Dhurandar is a political espionage thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, featuring a strong cast including Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The film was a massive hit, earning around Rs 1,300 crore globally and running in theaters for several months.
Ranveer Singh plays Hamza Ali Mazari, a young man who infiltrates Rehman Dhakaite’s (Akshaye Khanna) gang while secretly working as a spy for India. He later marries Yalina (Sara Arjun), the daughter of politician Jamil Jamali (Rakesh Bedi), adding layers to the intense narrative inspired by real-life incidents like Operation Lyari.
The second part of the film is scheduled to be released on March 19, 2026, and promises to continue the high-octane spy saga.
Meanwhile, Alexander Stubb visited India on March 4 to attend the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. He also called on India to play a diplomatic role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, and urged an immediate ceasefire as the West Asian war continues to escalate.
Staub also revealed that he watched the spy thriller after a recommendation from his son and expressed his excitement for the upcoming sequel. “Interestingly, before I came to India, my son suggested that I watch Dhurandhar. So I did. Of course that was part of the story of this film. I am happy to fight terrorism and am looking forward to the second part on March 19,” he told ANI.
