Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday mocked Donald Trump for accepting a Nobel Peace Medal from the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, likening the moment to “giving a baby a lollipop.”
During the opening monologue of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel took aim at Trump after Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado handed over the medal during a White House meeting earlier in the day.
“Rarely does a president pull the Nobel Prize off someone’s neck,” Kimmel said, adding that Trump was now back “in the Oval Office with it, like a lollipop.”
Machado, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for leading resistance efforts against former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, presented the medal to Trump after he publicly praised his interventions related to Venezuela. The move attracted worldwide attention as Nobel Prize authorities later confirmed that the award could not be transferred, even if the physical medal were to be changed.
The comedian later brought out his own trophies on stage and presented them to Trump as a joke. Showing off his Emmy and Soul Train awards, Kimmel joked that he would part ways with them “if, and only if” Trump agreed to withdraw Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from Minneapolis.
The remarks reference ongoing criticism of Trump’s immigration enforcement policies, which sparked protests following the January 7 killing of Rene Judd during an ICE operation, according to US media reports.
“The choice is yours. I will personally deliver any or even all of them to the Oval Office in exchange for leaving the people of Minneapolis alone,” Kimmel continued, presenting his awards from his entire show business career.
Kimmel said the incident highlighted Trump’s long-standing passion for awards and public validation, joking that although Machado left without a political endorsement, she received a parting gift. “Thanks for the Nobel Prize,” Kimmel joked, imitating Trump. “Here’s a Make America Great Again mug. We appreciate you stopping by.”
