Daily travel on Mumbai’s Western Railway network is about to get a lot more convenient. From February 19, the Railways will add 12 new air-conditioned local trains besides three regular non-air-conditioned services. The move was taken due to the growing demand for cooler and less crowded travel, especially during peak hours. Since the introduction of local air conditioning, passengers have been opting for the ride for a smoother ride and seats often fill up quickly on popular routes.
After the new additions, the total number of air-conditioning services will increase from 121 to 133. The total number of local trains on the Western Line will increase from 1,410 to 1,414. Weekend travelers will benefit more, as air-conditioning services will increase from 77 to 106.
More AC trains for Western Railway passengers
According to the Public Relations Department of Western Railway, “12 local AC services are being introduced, of which 11 will replace the existing non-AC services, while one will be a new AC service. In addition, three additional non-AC services are also being introduced. The slow local service currently running from Bhayandar to Bandra will operate from Virar, providing additional convenience and improved connectivity to passengers.”
Railway officials feel that the addition of these trains will help manage rush on crowded routes and provide passengers with more options, especially during peak hours and weekends when buses are overcrowded.
Jumbo Block on February 15th
Along with the announcement of the new train, Western Railway also shared that a four-hour mega block has been planned for Sunday, February 15, 2026. This block will take place for important repair and maintenance works on the railway tracks, signaling systems and overhead wires.
The ban will be in effect from 10 am to 2 pm towards Virar Express and Line 5 between Ram Mandir and Borivali stations. During these hours, trains normally running on the fast line will be diverted to the slow line or 6th line between Borivali and Andheri. Trains that normally use Line 5 will run on the Down Fast line between Andheri and Borivali instead.
Due to this change, some local train services in both directions will be cancelled. Some services between Andheri and Borivali will operate only up to Goregaon on the Harbor Line during the ban period.
