The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has recently banned 25 OTT platforms, including common names such as Ulu, Alt Balaji, Desiflix and MoodX. These sites are found that hosts vulgar and outrageous, and in some cases, pornographic content without meaning or social messages. Once the news begins to spread on social media, people’s reaction quickly to jokes, memes and even fun was how this suspicious content is easily available online.
Prohibited applications:
The menu includes Altbaalaji (Altt), ULU, Desiflix, Mojflix, Triflicks, Boimex, ShowX, MoodX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Neonx VIP, Hulchul App, Big Luts App and GULAB App, Kangan App, Bull App, JALVA App, Navarasa Lite, WOK WOY, Showhit.
Here’s how the internet reaction was:
In response to censorship, a user wrote, “The Indian government prohibited Ulu, altbaalaji, other ott platforms on obscene content.
“Desh Ka Yuva tries to log in to Ulu TV, altt, etc.,” read a comment.
One of them stated, “A telegram monitors ulu, altbaalaji and other soft P*RN applications.”
What is the issue:
According to the Hindustan era, officials participated that many of these OTT platforms were showing content with strong sexual hints and long scenes that showed nudity and adult work. Some of this content was like P*RN. They also indicated that most of these offers or videos did not have any real story, a clear topic or a message. Instead, they often focused on bold and inappropriate images without much meaning or purpose.
Officials said the government took this step because the content on these platforms broke important Indian laws. The article was going away and crossing the legal limits, which led to a strict action against these platforms.
According to Storyboard18, the government explained that digital platforms and mediators must follow the rules under IT law, 2000, and information technology rules (intermediate instructions and rules of digital media ethics), 2021. They must remove or prohibit access to any illegal legal content on their platforms. This includes videos or shows considered vulgar, obscene or harmful to viewers.
