A Jet2 flight, flying from Türkiye to the UK, was forced to make an emergency diversion to Brussels on Thursday after two passengers got into a violent altercation in mid-air.
The flight had left Antalya and was scheduled to land in Manchester. However, about three hours into the flight, the situation escalated to the point that the pilots decided to divert the plane, according to reports.
Videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes inside the cabin, as two men were seen struggling in the aisle while other passengers were screaming. Many people, including men and women of different ages, appeared to be drawn into the confrontation as the argument intensified.
In one clip, a flight attendant can be seen standing on a seat and asking passengers to stop fighting as the two men hold each other in a headlock. Punches and kicks were reportedly exchanged during the scuffle, while crew members struggled to restore order.
Upon landing in Brussels, police boarded the plane and removed the two passengers involved in the initial altercation. In a statement, Jet2 described the incident as “appalling behavior by two disruptive passengers” and confirmed that both people have been banned from flying with the airline for life.
The airline also said it would seek to recover costs incurred due to the diversion. “As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behavior, and we are very sorry that other customers and our fellow passengers on board had to experience this,” the statement read.
Jet2 has previously cracked down on disruptive flyers. In 2022, two brothers were fined £50,000 and banned for life after their row caused a flight to be diverted. In another case in 2017, a couple was banned from flying with the airline after their dispute turned physical and forced them to make an unscheduled landing.
The latest incident underscores airlines’ increasingly tough stance against misconduct on board, especially when safety is at risk.
