A video shared by Congress leader Srinivas P has raised concerns over food hygiene on the Amrit Bharat Express (16601). The video allegedly shows a man washing disposable food containers, which are then reportedly reused to serve meals to passengers.
In his post, Srinivas criticized the practice, saying: “Railway Minister, this is your convenience. The full fare is being collected from the public, but on the other hand, this is a shameful act. You should be ashamed.”
The video raised questions about food safety standards on the train, though no official response has been shared from the railways yet.
Tomorrow Minister, this is your facility 👇🏼 This video is for Amrit Bharat Express (16601) – where dirty disposable food containers are washed and kept for further serving.
The audience is fully refunded on tickets, but on the other hand this is cheap business.

In response to the viral video, IRCTC stated that it is taking the matter seriously. The vendor involved in washing and reusing disposable food containers on the Amrit Bharat Express has been identified and was immediately removed from service.
“Further action is being taken to cancel the vendor’s license, and a hefty fine has also been imposed to ensure accountability and enhance food safety standards on trains,” she added.
Meanwhile, many users criticized the video, describing it as unhealthy and unsafe for passengers. At the same time, some passengers highlighted other ongoing issues on the train, including overcrowding in the third air-conditioned coach and concerns about cleanliness and quality of service, sparking a broader conversation about the overall passenger experience on long-distance trains.
“The video that has gone viral is absolutely shameful, as it shows railway staff washing dirty disposable food containers and re-serving them for re-serve. “The public are charged full fees for the tickets, but such a disrespectful attitude towards their health and hygiene is highly reprehensible and detrimental to the image of the country,” one user said.
The other added: “This is not the first incident of its kind and it will not be the last. We and our society need radical change. Nothing has been settled.”
One person shared a video of the overcrowded AC coach in the comments section and said, “And look at this too – special trains run. Condition of AC coaches in Delhi-Bihar train.”
