At Prayagraj Hospital in Uttar Pradesh, a tense delivery room scene shocked everyone when an elderly woman started screaming forcefully and shouting at her daughter-in-law who was in the middle of delivering a baby.
Labor pain is already physically and emotionally challenging at that time, and having a dominant organ can make the experience even more difficult. In this case, instead of support, the pregnant woman faced criticism and harsh orders from her mother-in-law. The incident shocked the family, who criticized her mother-in-law’s actions and questioned the husband’s silence in defending his wife.

She can be heard in the video screaming: “Shut up or I will break your mouth. How are you going to be a mother if you keep crying like this?” She also objected to the daughter-in-law holding her husband’s hand, saying: “Chordo uska hath, chordo (Leave his hand, leave it).”
Her tone shifted between anger and excitement. At one point, she smiled and joked, “Gala dab denge (We’ll squeeze your throat),” and her granddaughter-in-law laughed. Meanwhile, the medical staff tried to intervene and insisted on performing a caesarean section, but the elderly woman remained insisting on a natural birth.
Doctor’s advice
Gynecologist Dr Naz Fatima, who shared the video on Instagram, highlighted the importance of compassion during such times. She wrote: “Is it time pe pyaar se baat karna hota hai (One must speak lovingly at this time).”
Viewers criticize her mother-in-law’s behavior
The video sparked strong reactions online. Many criticized her mother-in-law’s cruel actions, while others also pointed out the husband’s silence during the ordeal.
One user commented, “They can’t bear to see their son holding his wife’s hand, even in the delivery room.”
Another commented: “It’s hard to watch a pregnant woman be disrespected and no one says a word. Another reminder that not every old person deserves respect. Age doesn’t automatically make you wise or kind. Getting older doesn’t give you the right to be rude or to people saying she’s joking around and having fun (I’m sorry she had a baby, no right to joke around with her). Age is not a free pass for bad behavior.”
“You all see a problematic mother-in-law, and I see a problematic husband who failed to stand up for his wife. He failed as a husband by all accounts,” one person noted.
Another person said, “How inhuman is she? She is in pain but still smiling, how helpless is she! Dadi Amma did not get love from her husband and now she is jealous that the husband is holding her hands.”
“This video was really hurtful and then I saw men commenting with heart emojis and saying daant nahi pyaar hai (This is not a scolding, this is love). I feel sorry for their wives,” another comment read.
Prank twist
At the end of the video, the tension takes an unexpected turn when the hospital staff brings in the newborn. It was revealed that her son and step-granddaughter were playing a prank on her and she was not informed that the woman had already given birth to a child.
