Ghaziabad. The month of February is in the name of love and begins with Rose Day on the seventh of the month. Rose Day is tomorrow (Saturday), making the city’s flower markets even more lively. The increasing demand for roses has raised prices to new heights. According to florists, this time the craze of offering roses to couples has become more evident than before. Rose, which was available for Rs 30 on normal days, is now selling for Rs 70 to Rs 100. Shop owners say that due to high demand and limited supply, prices have risen, but despite this, people do not refrain from buying roses to express their feelings. With the start of Valentine’s Week in Ghaziabad, the flower markets are back in their glory. There is a huge increase in demand for roses, especially due to the Rose Festival that starts on Saturday.
How did prices rise?
Speaking to Local 18, Nikesh Gupta, owner of Flowers and Petals, Kavinagar, says the highest demand for roses has been recorded this time in the last 16 to 17 years. The increased demand also had a direct impact on prices. A rose, which used to sell for Rs 20 to Rs 30 on normal days, is now sold for Rs 70 to Rs 100, says Nikesh Gupta. Once Valentine’s week began, flower purchasing increased. After Rose Day comes Chocolate Day, Teddy Day and other special days. In such a situation, the entire week becomes not only love-filled but also profitable for businessmen. Besides flowers, gifts also sell well in the markets.
Pink is in high demand
This time there is also a big change in Valentine’s week. Earlier this week it was considered limited to couples only but now its scope has increased. According to Nikesh Gupta, children are now giving flowers and gifts to their parents. Young children also love giving roses to their grandparents. Gradually, Valentine’s week has become special not only for loving couples but also for families. These days, red and pink roses are in highest demand in the market. Red and pink roses, which are considered symbols of love and emotions, remain people’s first choice. The demand for white roses has also increased significantly. In fact, the wedding season is ongoing, so the buying of white roses is also in full swing.
It is not limited to roses only
Roses from Bengaluru, Pune and Nashik are well consumed in the markets. Customers admire the quality and freshness of these roses sourced from different parts of the country. People are now buying not only single roses but also bouquets, rose sets and gift packages. Traders say that as Valentine’s Day week progresses, the markets will brighten even more. As demand increases, it is natural for prices to rise, but despite this, people do not refrain from buying roses for their own types.
