William Shakespeare once asked: “What’s the meaning of a name?” However, Indian tradition holds that a child’s name carries great importance. Therefore, choosing the right name requires careful thought, as an unsuccessful choice may lead to embarrassment as the child grows.
However, an Indonesian father took a completely different approach when naming his child, simply choosing whatever came to mind. This boy has become very famous in 2021 because of his exceptional name.
At that time, he was 12 years old, and even now, whenever unusual names are discussed, his name is often mentioned.
A strange name made headlines
The boy, who hails from Indonesia’s South Sumatra province, was named ABCDEF GHIJK – yes, you read that right, the first eleven letters of the English alphabet! His unusual name made headlines when he attended a vaccination campaign organized by the police in the Mwara Enem district.
Health workers initially assumed his name was a joke when they saw it on the register, but were stunned when they saw it printed on his ID card and school uniform.

As pictures of his documents and name spread on social media, reactions ranged between ridicule and criticism, as some considered the name inappropriate for a child.
According to the local website Coverage6the boy goes to middle school and admitted that his classmates initially teased him about his name.
However, over time, he came to embrace it with pride, preferring to call it “ADV” for simplicity.
Strange origin of the name
The story behind the name is equally fascinating. The boy’s father, Zulfahmi, told the media that he came up with the idea six years before his son was born. Zulfahmi was passionate about the English language and crossword puzzles, and dreamed of becoming a writer. His fascination with the alphabet inspired him to name his children accordingly.
He revealed that if his wife had agreed, his second child would have been named “NOPQ RSTUV” and his third child “XYZ.” Instead, he gave his other two sons traditional names: Amar and Attar.
The boy’s full name is ABCDEF GHIJK Zuzu, with “Zuzu” combining the names of his parents, Zuhro and Zulfahmi.
