In a video circulating on social media, a man showed how the Japanese have redefined comfort with just a personalized pillow.

The man, who documents the country’s unique experiences, said no trip to Osaka is complete without a custom pillow from Nishikawa. The brand has been redefining sleep since 1566. He calls them the “Sleep Pillow” and reveals that to get your personalized pillow, you’ll need to undergo a six-step process that begins with a consultation, during which trained specialists ask about your sleeping habits.

“The first step, a sleep expert provides you with consultations about your current sleep situation,” he said. In the next step, the person is asked to choose their preferred pillow filling material from a wide range of options in the catalogue. The third step, the man said, is “exciting.” “Get your measurements for your ideal pillow height to create a one-of-a-kind pillow just for you,” he explained.

Next comes the trial part. Customers are asked to lie on premium beds and test the pillow by sleeping on different sides, or their preferred side. “The key I’ve learned is to keep your eye level at that front corner,” he said as he suggested how to test your custom pillow. The penultimate step in the process is to adjust the height of the pillow to your preference. It can be adjusted at 14 different points.

The sixth and final step is when the sleep expert invites the client to perform a final inspection of their pillow to ensure it meets their preferences. “Through careful optimization, Nishikawa achieves a unique creation that is uniquely calibrated to fit your shape. You can even return it for professional maintenance because the masterwork is worth preserving,” he concluded.

In a short time, the clip went viral, garnering more than 4.7 million views on Instagram. In response, one user joked: “Japan’s got a fucking master of everything.”
