Kolkata. Saraswati Puja is not just a festival for students, but a reflection of literature, art and changing social relations. When the entire country celebrates Basant Panchami on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of the month of Magh, Mother Saraswati is welcomed in every home in Bengal in a unique way. The form of Saraswati Puja also changes with time. It has now transformed from a mere religious ritual into a “digital” and “eco-friendly” celebration. While it was previously limited to homes and schools only, it is now “topic-based” and “social media-centric”. At the same time, increasing awareness towards the environment has changed the way of worship. Many people focus on sculptures made of clay and natural colors rather than “Plaster of Paris”. Under the new trend, this year, along with traditional idols, there is a huge craze for “eco-friendly” and “seed idols”.
