Sometimes working hard at work turns ordinary days into great days. This appears to be the case with Sudha Dwivedi, a ticket inspector from the Mumbai division, who has attracted attention online for an unusual record. She collected fines worth over Rs 55,000 in a single day while checking train tickets.
The achievement was highlighted by the Indian Tech & Infra account on X, which often posts updates on Indian technology, infrastructure and economy. The post also included two photos from inside the train.
A post highlighting an unusual record in ticket screening
The post shared on X talked about Sudha Dwivedi working during one shift. According to the circular, it has collected a total of Rs 55,210 as penalties from passengers traveling without valid tickets.
“Sudha Dwivedi, Ticket Inspector (TTI) of Mumbai Division, has achieved a new milestone in ticket checking by collecting fines amounting to Rs 55,210, the highest ever recorded in a single day,” the tweet read.
The post also included two photos showing Dwivedi working inside a crowded train carriage. In the pictures, she is seen wearing a sari and an ID card around her neck while checking passenger tickets. She looks focused as she writes down the details in a small notebook and checks the tickets one by one. Several passengers stand around in the crowded cabin, some holding their phones as they wait for their tickets to be checked.
Social media reacts to the important event
The post quickly gained attention online after it was shared on March 5. It has received more than two million views so far, along with many comments from users discussing the record.
Among those who reacted was Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. She praised the efforts and wrote: “India needs more such sudhas – in every sector and every discipline.”

Her comment encouraged further discussion among users on the platform. Some people appreciated the dedication shown by the ticket inspector and said such strict inspection helps in maintaining discipline in public transport.
“Sure, I’ve seen it personally when strictness levels rise sharply when female ticket examiners are on board,” one user wrote.
Another comment noted a different concern. “Agreed. But it is sad that there are so many people who dared to travel without a ticket. The system should be more robust; everyone should carry their Aadhaar card and once they enter the railway station/train, the sensor should sense their presence, monitor them and charge them according to the travel.”
Some users also questioned the attention the record received. “Now we value people who simply do their job. The standard has set too low,” one person wrote.
Another user added: “In fact, honest workers and hardworking people are the first to be targeted when they question the illegal work ethics of top management.”
A different comment turned the discussion to rail services in general, with one user writing, “India also needs on-time trains, more locals, and basic amenities on trains that we the citizens pay for.”
The incident has once again highlighted ticketless travel on local trains in Mumbai and the need for stricter checks.
